Al founded Chestnut Partners in 1995. While at Chestnut, he has advised on over $11 billion in completed merger transactions and raised over $850 million in private and public debt and equity financings, including four IPOs. Prior to founding Chestnut Partners, Mr. Holman spent 14 years Kidder, Peabody & Co. Incorporated. Before moving to Boston in 1993, he was based in New York and was the Head of the Life Science and Technology Finance Groups, Co-Head of the Domestic Generalist Coverage Group, Head of the Emerging Growth Group with responsibilities for private growth companies and Co-Head of the Japan Banking Group. At Kidder, Mr. Holman publicly and privately raised over $2 billion of capital including 10 initial public offerings (including lead IPO banker for Genzyme and Vertex Pharmaceuticals) and completed numerous acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and tender defense assignments. He previously chaired Kidder’s Mergers and Acquisition Department’s Fairness Opinion Committee and co-chaired the Investment Banking Department’s Year-end Management Committee. Mr. Holman is a graduate of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Business Administration and the University of Michigan.

Mr. Holman has been involved with the Mass General Brigham (MGB) hospital system for 30 years and currently serves on the Operating Budget Committee and the Strategic Capital Management Committee. He previously served as a Trustee of MGB, where he chaired the Finance Committee for 17 years. He was a member of the MGB Investment Committee for 11 years and served on the Audit and Compliance Committees. He was also a Trustee of Brigham and Women’s Hospital for 28 years. Mr. Holman is a Trustee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Inc. (member of Executive, Philanthropy (chair), and Finance Committees). He is a Trustee Emeritus of the Boston Ballet and past co-chair of its Governance Committee.
