Albert A. Holman, III

Managing Partner

Al Holman founded Chestnut Partners and Chestnut Securities in 1995. While at Chestnut, Al has raised over $800 million in private and public debt and equity financings, advised on over $1.8 billion in completed merger transactions, and advised on four IPOs. Prior to founding Chestnut Partners, Al spent 14 years Kidder, Peabody & Co. Incorporated where he was Managing Director and Head of Kidder’s New England Investment Banking Department with responsibility for all public and private company coverage in New England. Before moving to Boston in 1993, he was based in New York and was the Co-Head of Kidder’s Japan Banking Group, Co-Head of the Domestic Generalist Coverage Group with responsibility for general industries, Head of the Emerging Growth Group with responsibilities for private growth companies, and Head of the Technology Finance and Life Science Groups. At Kidder, Mr. Holman publicly and privately raised over $2 billion of capital including 10 initial public offerings (including lead banker for Genzyme and Vertex Pharmaceuticals) and completed numerous acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and tender defense assignments. He previously chaired the Mergers and Acquisition Department’s Fairness Opinion Committee and co-chaired the Investment Banking Department’s Year-end Management Committee. Mr. Holman is a graduate of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Business Administration and the University of Michigan.

Mr. Holman sits on the Board Directors of Partners HealthCare System, Inc. where he chairs the Finance Committee and is a member of the Audit and Compliance Committees. Partners HealthCare System, Inc. is the corporate parent of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospitals and other affiliates. Mr. Holman is also a Trustee of The Brigham and Women’s /Faulkner Hospitals, Inc., (Finance and Executive Committees), a Board member of Dana-Farber/Partners Cancer Care (Finance and Audit Committees), and a Board Director of The Medicalis Corporation (Audit Committee).

Adam S. Volwiler


Mr. Volwiler has 9 years of investment banking and investing experience. Prior to rejoining Chestnut Partners in 2018, he spent five years as the head of investment analysis for Glen Capital Partners LLC, an investment manager that he helped establish in 2013 for a client of Chestnut. Glen Capital takes a private equity approach to investing in small-capitalization public companies in the healthcare, industrials, technology, financial services, and business services sectors. While at Glen Capital, Mr. Volwiler evaluated over 300 companies, resulting in a successful, $100 million portfolio of eight investments. His work involved deep analysis of industries, business models, operations, strategy, management teams, corporate governance, capital structure, and valuation. He had extensive involvement with the senior leaders of portfolio and prospective portfolio companies and managed Glen Capital’s relationships with industry experts, sellside analysts, and other investors. Mr. Volwiler worked constructively with the companies in Glen Capital’s portfolio to improve Boards, strengthen management, reduce costs, enhance capital allocation, and unlock value from non-core assets. Mr. Volwiler began his career at Chestnut Partners in 2009, where he led numerous engagements covering the areas of equity and debt placement, M&A advisory, financial planning & analysis, valuation, and tender defense advisory. Mr. Volwiler holds a B.A. degree in Biochemistry with high honors from Middlebury College and completed the Business Bridge Program at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
